Happenings!

I’m ever so sorry it’s been so quiet around these parts. I’ve had a lot on my plate. I’ve been busy beavering away on a number of projects that are likely to see the light of day very soon. A number of prints, and various other items, will be hitting you right in the eye orbs soon! Keep those eye orbs polished!

Anyway, I’m very happy to say that i have pieces of work in two shows that will be opening their doors to the public soon. Both will be happening in the US, and i won’t be at either of them, but that’s probably for the best. You don’t want my big stupid face ruining an otherwise enjoyable evening for everyone.

As a life long fan of the work of Roald Dahl, I am delighted to say that I will be contributing a piece to a show happening at Galerie F in Chicago. It’s going to be interesting to see a show based around Dahl’s work, especially since it’s visual language is so firmly rooted in the work of Quentin Blake. It’s a stunning line up of artists, and one I an honoured and humbled to be a part of. I hope I don’t let the side down.

Another happening will be taking place in LA, and it opens this week. The whole show is being put together by the supremely talented Mike Mitchell. He, rather kindly, asked me to contribute a piece for the show. I agreed. I tried not to look at the list of participating artist for fear of getting overwhelmed. It’s quite a list. Anyway, i’m sure the show is going to be an absolute head spinner. I’m again honoured and humbled to be a part of it.

I’ll show the pieces i have done after the shows open. I don’t want to ruin the surprise.

Oh, if you want to keep a bit more up to date on what is going on, you can get me on Twitter and Instagram @drewmillward. And of course there is my Facebook page.

Until next time, have fun!

Get ahead, get a hat!

Sam and Max

Hey folks!

Just a really quick heads up. I recently got a few copies of my Sam and Max print returned from Gallery 1988. The print was for a show in 2010, so it’s a few years old now, but I was always pretty happy with how it turned out.

Anyways, there are a few copies up in the store now, if you want them, Get them HERE!

Flyposting #2

Hey Folks!

Leeds has always been a hotbed of poster making talent. No idea why, but the fair city has produced a lot of poster makers over the years, including myself. When I started making them, around nine years ago, it was very much a niche market. Along with Graham ‘Army of Cats’ Pilling and Luke Drozd we fumbled our way through the murky waters of gig promotion, screen printing and hand cramp. Over the years more people have sprung up locally and nationally, to create somewhat of a ‘scene’ of like minded individuals. We seem to have come a long way from the days of arguing with people about them spending a few pounds on a print, and the question of “why bother?” seems to be increasingly less asked.

With this in mind, it’s with great pleasure that I can post about Flyposting #2.

Kicking off last Friday night, the show will run until May at Flannels Gallery. It is great to see such an array of the craft on display in one place. It’s also refreshing to see work I haven’t encountered before, as well as a lot of familiar pieces. In addition to the gallery portion of the show, posters and prints, from over 30 national and international artists will be displayed around the city. You will be able to spot stuff in The Wardrobe, Froth and FodderThe Marvellous Tea Room, Colours May Vary, The Reliance and North Bar. You could easily make a pub crawl out of that. Well worth doing.

Keep and eye on the blog for more details.

The time has come!

Sorry about the delay in posting this, but I have been away from the desk for a few days.

Anyway, last week you will recall I pointed out that my first ever toy was going up for pre-order. Well, now it is up.

You can score 2 different versions of the beast, so far.

They both measure around 6″ in hight.

First up is the regular version. Limited to 15o pieces in total, and available HERE!

Also available, and very limited to only 50 pieces, is the grey scale variant.  You can grab that from HERE!

I hope you like it. I’m like a proud father.

Grab one, before they go.

POPOBAWA!

Hello good people of the internet lands!

I trust this electronic communication finds you in fine fettle.

It’s Monday morning and I bring good news. You know that toy I’ve been telling you about for ages? well, it’s finally happening. The wheels are in motion, and an army of those little guys will be hitting our shores imminently. Since there has been quite a bit of a buzz around these (for which I am eternally grateful), myself and Disturbia have decided that we are going to put these up for pre-order this Thursday (21/02/13, which is also my birthday, so, feel free to send gifts). Full details will be launched on that day, but keep your eyes on the Disturbia site for everything you need to know about catching one.

Thanks for reading (if anyone is), and I hope you like the toy.

He’s not a bad sort, and he will need a home.

Happy New Year!

Yes yes, I know it’s late. I’m a bit concerned where January went to. Seems to have slipped by, like the sly eel that it is.

So, it’s 2013, and things are motoring along as always. Although I’ve been quiet, I’ve not been lazy. Things have been worked on, and projects completed. It seems that I’ve already got a number of shows booked for this year, around the UK, and the possibility of heading further afield. They are a mix of new and existing work, so that will be a nice way to occupy some time. I’ll keep you all posted on that.

In other news from Millward HQ, we are getting very close to the release of my first ever toy. I’ve wanted to produce a toy for years, so when the opportunity arose to work with those fine folks at Disturbia, I obviously leaped at the chance. We’ve been working on it together for a good few months, but it should finally hit the shelves later this month. I’ll keep you posted on full details. If you frequent any of the more discerning toy blogs, you may have spotted it already, but here it is. Hope you like it.

I’ll post full details and specs soon.

It’s nice to be asked to produce work for the same people, so it was a pleasure to work with the good folks in Circa Survive, once again. They asked for a new merch design to take out with them on tour, so I obviously agreed.

Finally, for now, I was recently asked to produce a poster for a band that I have loved for a long, long time, Dinosaur Jr. Now, when I say recently, I mean recently. The initial email request came last Monday. After a few emails back and forth to establish some details, it was decided that the show they needed a poster for was the following Monday. Now, I usually work at somewhat of a snail’s pace. I’m methodical, and, for better or worse, the work I make takes a long time. So, given the challenge of designing, printing and delivering the poster within the space of four days, I considered the challenge on.
In terms of the design, I wanted to somehow tap into the melodic wall of noise, that is Dinosaur Jr.  and I can only hope I managed a small part of that. I have, as always, been looking at Ernst Haeckel’s Art Forms in Nature, so that played a large part in the formulation of the poster.
So, after getting the design sorted in the shortest amount of time I have ever spent doing a poster, I handed over the files to the ultra talented Mr. Tommy Davidson, who managed to work until the wee early hours (because I’d chosen to use four colours, in spite of the tight deadline. Sorry Tommy), and get this beast printed, just in time for me to drive over the Manchester, deliver the posters, and have my face melted by Dinosaur Jr.
One week poster, no problem.

The posters will be available at the show on Monday, and I will have a very, very small number for sale on my site at some point next week.

Speak soon,

Drew

Tis the season…
